Conference Photography at the Colorado Convention Center | Denver
The Colorado Convention Center is the beating heart of Denver’s events industry — and it’s where we’ve done more conference photography than any other venue. With 2.2 million square feet of space, 584,000 square feet of exhibit hall on a single level, and the brand-new 80,000-square-foot Bluebird Ballroom completed in 2024, this is one of the largest and most versatile convention centers in the country. It’s also the 12th largest in the United States, hosting roughly 400 events every year.
From the Hip Photo are official photographers for Visit Denver and the official photographers for Visit Aurora—providing photography for the two largest tourism boards in the state. They are also a preferred photography partner for the Colorado Convention Center itself, a relationship spanning over a decade of collaborative work.
We’ve been photographing events here for over 17 years. We know the light in every ballroom, the best angles from every stage, and exactly how to navigate 584,000 square feet of exhibit hall without missing a keynote three floors away. Whether it’s a 10,000-person trade show or a 200-person medical conference, the Colorado Convention Center is our home turf.

The 2024 Expansion: Even More to Photograph
The Convention Center’s $240 million expansion was completed in late 2024, adding significant new event spaces and giving planners — and their photographers — even more to work with. The new spaces have been a game-changer for both events and photography:
The Bluebird Ballroom. At 80,000 square feet of column-free space, the new Bluebird Ballroom accommodates up to 8,000 attendees. Column-free is the key word here — it means unobstructed sight lines from every angle, which is exactly what we want for stage photography. The ballroom’s state-of-the-art lighting system can create the illusion of a night sky, adding dramatic atmosphere to evening galas and award ceremonies. With 35,000 square feet of pre-function space, there’s also plenty of room for reception and registration photography.
The Rooftop Terrace. This 20,000-square-foot outdoor space offers panoramic views of both the Rocky Mountains and downtown Denver’s skyline. Complete with firepits and flexible event configurations, it’s become one of our favorite spots for reception photography and candid networking shots — especially during golden hour.

Events We’ve Photographed at the Convention Center
We’ve covered hundreds of events at the Convention Center over nearly two decades. Here are a few recent examples:

What We Photograph at the Convention Center
Every event at the Convention Center is different, but our coverage typically includes:
Keynotes and main stage presentations. Whether it’s the massive Bellco Theatre (5,000 seats), the new Bluebird Ballroom, or the Four Seasons Ballroom, we’ve shot hundreds of keynote speakers across every major stage in the building. We know exactly where to position for clean speaker shots, dramatic wide angles of the crowd, and detail shots of the production setup.

Breakout sessions and panels. The Convention Center has 63 meeting rooms ranging from intimate boardrooms to ballroom-sized spaces. We move efficiently between rooms to capture presenters, audience engagement, and the small moments that make each session unique.
Expo halls and exhibitor activations. With 584,000 square feet of exhibit hall on a single level, this is one of the largest unobstructed expo floors in the country. We cover booth setups, sponsor activations, product demonstrations, and the flow of attendees through the space.

Networking and candid moments. The expansive lobbies, pre-function areas, and the new rooftop terrace are where attendees connect between sessions. We circulate through these spaces throughout the day capturing authentic interactions — the conversations, the handshakes, the energy of a thriving professional community.
Professional headshot stations. Conference headshots are one of our specialties, and the Convention Center’s pre-function areas and meeting rooms are ideal for setting up our virtual-queue headshot stations. Attendees get professional headshots during breaks without waiting in line.
Evening galas and award ceremonies. The Bellco Theatre (5,000 seats) and the ballrooms transform for evening programming. We adapt our lighting approach for these events, using off-camera flash and creative techniques to capture the atmosphere without disrupting the experience.

Why We’re the Right Fit for the Colorado Convention Center
There are plenty of photographers in Denver. But very few have spent 17 years learning this specific building. We know which ballrooms have the trickiest lighting. We know the fastest routes between stages on different floors. We know the security protocols, the loading dock logistics, and which pre-function areas photograph best at different times of day.
That institutional knowledge means fewer surprises, faster turnaround, and better photos. Our five-photographer team has nearly 60 years of combined experience, and we bring that depth to every event we shoot at the Convention Center.
We’re also a preferred photography partner at the Colorado Convention Center — a distinction earned through years of consistent, professional work at this venue.
